The UK television schedule for the Qatar World Cup has been confirmed, with the BBC set to show England’s opening fixture.
It’s a quick start for the Three Lions, who take on Iran in Group B at 1pm on Monday, November 21, which is the third game of the tournament on its second day. The Khalifa International Stadium in Qatar’s capital Doha will host the game. It will be the Three Lions’ second visit to the stadium, having lost 1-0 to Brazil in 2009.
England’s second match against the USA at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor on the evening of Friday, November 25 will be broadcast live on ITV, while Gareth Southgate’s side will be back on the BBC for their final group encounter against Wales, to take place at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan on Tuesday, November 29.
ITV have the first two picks of the last-16 games and the top pick for the quarter-finals, which will be England should they advance deep into the tournament. The semi-finals will be shown on the BBC with the final broadcast live across both channels.
