Emma Raducanu today faces a major test as she takes on Ons Jabeur in the round of 16 at the Abu Dhabi Open.
The 21-year-old made her return to competitive action at the start of the year after eight months out with injury, having undergone wrist and ankle surgeries.
After beating Shelby Rogers in her opening match at the Australian Open, Raducanu was beaten by Wang Yafan but there were plenty of positives in terms of performance and, arguably more importantly, her fitness.
The Briton was impressive in cruising past Marie Bouzkova to make a successful start in Abu Dhabi, but it is now a significant step up against second seed Jabeur.
It is the toughest challenge Raducanu has faced since making her return, with Jabeur a three-time grand slam finalist and currently the world number six.
“Ons is definitely the favourite here and rightfully so,” Raducanu said. “I’m going out with nothing to lose against her.”
