The Washington Commanders (3-4) host the Philadelphia Eagles (6-1) Sunday in a game that could shape the future of Washington’s franchise. With the NFL trade deadline two days away, the Commanders’ performance against their rivals could shape the immediate and long-term future of the franchise.
Defensive ends Montez Sweat and Chase Young are the most popular Commanders being discussed on the trading block. If Washington wins, it would be 4-4 and in the thick of the NFC wild-card race, making it less likely to sell. However, if the Eagles win, the Commanders could be looking to acquire multiple picks in next year’s draft by trading some of their stars on expiring contracts.
As for the game on the field, Philadelphia defeated Washington in overtime, 34-31, just four weeks ago. Commanders QB Sam Howell was outstanding, almost helping his team pull off the road upset against the defending NFC champions.
