Fortnite players awoke this morning to find the return of Skull Trooper in the store. If you had OG Skull Trooper, you now have a special glow for his skeleton outfit, and there’s also a new Skull Ranger in the store, a gender-swapped version of the original.
But that’s not all. There’s a new scythe and glider you can buy as part of the Fortnite set, but to unlock Skull Troopers fancy new Ghost Portal back bling, you’ll have to do some work, completing five different challenges, some of which are mighty time-consuming, others that are just plain hard.
And remember, you can only do these challenges if you buy the Skull Trooper skin, not Skull Ranger, which seems like a bit of a mistake. You can use the back bling on her once you get it, but you will have to buy both characters.
So, how about these challenges? Let’s go through them:

Complete 7 Daily Challenges (0/7)
This is one is nothing. Daily Challenges are already pretty easy and you’ll do most of them by accident half the time. And it’s not like you have to do one every day in a row or something.
Play matches (0/50)
Uh wow, okay, 50 matches is kind of a lot, but in the grand scheme of things, is certainly doable. I suppose you could just insta-kill yourself and sink your stats to bust this out quickly, but that won’t help you with the next challenge.
Play matches with at least one elimination (0/14)
I’m not sure how they came up with the number 14 here, but you’ll need at least that many kills to unlock this portion of the challenge. Land in crowded areas, try to kill someone early before they gear up if elims don’t come easy to you.

Search 10 Chests in a single match (0/10)
Alright, these are start to get pretty tough now. Ten chests in a single match is going to be a tall order for many players. Not only does that mean you have to survive a pretty long time, but you have to memorize where chest spawns are in order for you to be searching effectively. And then on top of that you have to get lucky that the chests are even there in the first place. I’d say somewhere like Tilted might be good for this, but then you’re competing with a bunch of other chest-opening people who are also landing there. This might be a tough one for many players.
Deal damage to opponents in a single match (0/1000)(HARD)
Oh boy. Dealing 1000 damage to opponents in a single match is going to be tough for a lot of players. That’s taking out five full 100/100 enemies, or ten shieldless 100 health enemies. If you’re Ninja this may not be a problem, but for the rest of us mere mortals, doing 1000 damage to enemies in one match is going to be pretty damn hard, and this is one of the tougher challenges I’ve seen in Fortnite to date, at least for average players. But I honestly think the game needs more of these, and putting one here for this back bling unlock is something I can get behind, even if it’s going to be a headache to achieve for many.
Best of luck, if you’re anywhere near my skill level in Fortnite, you’ll need it.
