How to take part in Coronation Big Lunch on Sunday

Celebrations will take place across the UK this bank holiday weekend in honour of King Charles III's Coronation. Charles and Camilla will be crowned monarchs on Saturday (May 6), followed by a special Windsor Castle gig featuring a star-studded line-up on the Sunday (May 7).

Neighbours have been encouraged to share food and fun for Coronation Big Lunches on Sunday too, ahead of the bank holiday on Monday (May 8). Organised by the Big Lunch team at the Eden Project, the event aims to bring communities together while supporting local charities.

Big Lunches regularly take place in every corner of the country and last year they raised more than £22 million. Thousands of Coronation Big Lunches are expected to take place in streets, gardens, parks and other community spaces to mark the historic occasion.

Follow in the footsteps of Charles and Camilla themselves by recreating the Coronation quiche, which the Royal couple picked especially for the special day. The open baked savoury tart recipe, which was created by head chef Mark Flanagan, features spinach, broad beans and tarragon.

Greetings card company Thortful recommends adding other official Coronation recipes into your spread, including Coronation aubergine from Nadiya Hussain or a roast rack of lamb with Asian-style marinade from Ken Hom. You could also indulge in more traditional British options, including fish and chips, shepherd's pie and even a glass of Pimms.

For something sweet, top it all off with a strawberry and ginger trifle from Adam Handling or Martha Collinson's Coronation crown scones. Iceland's coronation cake, a delicious sponge with white icing, raspberries and blueberries, is another option.
