How to stop your phone battery running out at summer events

As we gear up for a summer of events across the country it’s crucial to take charge of your phone's battery health to make sure you can capture your content and contact your friends when out and about.

By optimizing your battery, you can relax and enjoy these experiences to the fullest without worrying about running out of power.

Ryan Brown, mobile phone expert at Mobile Phones Direct, has revealed five simple tips to prevent your phone’s battery from running low while you’re at these once in a lifetime events:

He said: “Not everyone knows this, but if you go into your phone’s settings and go into ‘Battery’ you can find your battery’s maximum capacity.

“As batteries age, their capacity decreases, resulting in shorter usage time between charges. While Apple suggests that a battery capacity above 80% is considered healthy, don’t worry if it falls below, as these next tips will help prolong your phone's battery life when it matters.

“1. Turn off Bluetooth and turn on airplane mode

“When you don’t need internet access, turn off your Bluetooth and turn on airplane mode.

“Then when you’d like to post your favourite artist's performance on social media, simply turn airplane mode off so you can connect to 4G or Wi-Fi.

“Your phone will also charge quicker if you put it on airplane mode during charging!”

“2. Check which apps are resulting in your battery to run down

“If you go into your phone's settings and tap ‘Battery’ you can check which app is draining your battery the most.

“By limiting how much time you spend on these particular apps, you’ll find your battery lasts a lot longer than usual. If possible, you could also choose to uninstall that app for that night or weekend”

“3. Lower your screen’s brightness

“Bright lights, big performances – but do you really need to blind yourself with a super bright screen? Lowering your phone’s brightness will save precious battery life for the moments that matter.

“Turning your brightness all the way down is such an easy way to preserve your battery when you’re not using it, and you can always crank it back up when you need to see what’s going on.”

“4. Update your apps before you leave for an event

“Don’t be that person with a load of outdated apps – make sure you update them before you head out to a gig. Those updates often come with fancy fixes and features that’ll keep your apps running smoothly and use less battery.

“There’s nothing worse than having apps you barely use devour your battery – so it’s also worth reviewing the apps you have downloaded and deleting or offloading the one’s you no longer need.

“5. Turn off your Wi-Fi

“If you have enough 4G to last the duration of your event, be sure to turn off Wi-Fi otherwise your phone will be roaming for the nearest connection which actually uses a significant amount of your battery.

“All of these tips are really effective in reducing how much battery you use when you really need it. You can rest easy knowing your phone will still be alive after your event, and if you want some extra protection, you can always purchase a portable charger to allow you to charge on the go!”
