The Resident Evil 4 remake is finally here, plunging gamers once again into a world of survival horror. A reimagined and rebuilt version of the fourth chapter in the popular franchise, the video game puts players in the shoes of former rookie cop Leon Kennedy.
The game has proved a huge hit for Capcom, having sold more than three million copies worldwide since its launch on March 24. It sees the return of some of the series’ most beloved characters, including the fan-favourite Merchant.
The mysterious hooded helper is back to aid Leon on his mission, complete with a host of powerful weapons and tools, plus his instantly iconic dialogue. He also has more to do this time round, as he now offers players a series of side quests throughout the game.

These Merchant requests see players tasked with destroying certain objects, killing new enemies, or tracking down some rare treasures in return for tradable Spinels. One such request comes late in the Castle section of the game in Chapter 12, as the Merchant asks Leon to help him track down a troublesome jewel thief.

How to solve the Jewel Thief Merchant request in Resident Evil 4 remake
The Jewel Thief Merchant request can be found next to the Merchant by the ballroom once Leon returns from the mines. It tasks players with tracking down a crow that’s flown off with a valuable jewel, and Leon is going to have to backtrack trough the castle to hunt it down.
The Scratched Emerald can be found in a crow’s nest near the mazed Courtyard area where Leon and Ashley encountered some violent dogs earlier in the game. But the jewel’s location according to the request is somewhat misleading, as the Courtyard actually extends past the maze back to the area between the Wine Cellar and the Courtyard itself, where Leon and Ashley became separated after first reaching the castle.
After making it back out into the courtyard from the ballroom, players may notice a crow that flies away just as Leon walks outside. Players should be able to follow this bird through the Courtyard and around the corner to find where it has hidden the jewel.
If the crow is too quick for Leon, the jewel can be found just outside a room housing the Merchant and a typewriter on the far side of the courtyard from the main castle building. Once here, players should look north towards the stairs where a bird’s nest can be found on a roof.
This is where the Scratched Emerald lies. Shooting the nest will cause the jewel to drop to the ground for Leon to collect, after which it can be sold back to the Merchant to complete the request.
Leon will receive three Spinels for his trouble, which can be used to trade for weapons, treasure maps, and more.
