This year, Apple announced four new phones, which is the most it has ever unveiled in a single launch event. Of those, two are available for pre-order right now: You can sign up to get the iPhone 12 or the iPhone 12 Pro starting today, Oct. 16. Both phones will be released and shipped to consumers in just a week, on Friday, Oct. 23.
If you have your eye on the iPhone 12 Pro Max or iPhone 12 Mini, those models will be open for pre-order on Friday, Nov. 6 and will ship to customers a week later on Friday, Nov. 13.

What are the best iPhone 12 deals?
Right now, don’t expect to see any great deals from retailers — this is the season when stores can expect to sell iPhones at full price, and they will take advantage of that. The best retail deal is at Apple, where you can get up to $500 off with a trade-in of your existing iPhone model. Mobile carriers are offering a number of incentives as well, detailed below.
AT&T: New and existing AT&T can get a free iPhone 12 by trading in an iPhone 8 or newer model and signing up for an unlimited plan.
Verizon: Verizon is offering new customers a free iPhone 12 for trading in an eligible phone and signing up for one of Verizon’s eligible service plans. Existing Verizon customers can get the same deal for an additional $15 per month.
T-Mobile: New customers can get two iPhone 12 Pros and lines with unlimited service if they trade in two eligible devices, all for $100 per month.
What’s the Difference Between the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, and iPhone 12 Mini?
There are more models to choose from this year than ever, so it helps to compare each one side-by-side to determine which is best for you. All four models are built on Apple’s newest Apple A14 Bionic processor and are 5G enabled (though given the limited availability of 5G networks nationwide, this won’t be an important feature for most users for quite some time). Here’s a summary of what is actually different in each model.
iPhone 12
- 64GB: $799
- 128GB: $849
- 256GB: $949
The iPhone 12 is the new base model; all the other iPhone 12 models are variations of this phone. It has a 6.1-inch screen, two rear-facing cameras, and is available in five colors: black, red, white, green, and blue. Pricing on the iPhone 12 starts at $799 for the 64GB model, but most people will probably opt for the 128GB model, which costs $849.
The iPhone 12 Pro
- 128GB: $999
- 256GB: $1,099
- 512GB: $1,199
The iPhone 12 Pro has the same 6.1-inch screen size but has upgraded materials (like a stainless steel housing) as well as a third (telephoto) camera. It also has LIDAR for enhanced augment reality applications, which may or may not be useful — time will tell. iPhone 12 Pro comes in gold, silver, graphite, and blue and starts at $999 for the 128GB version. You can spend as much s $1,199 for a 512GB version.
The iPhone 12 Pro Max
- 128GB: $1,099
- 256GB: $1,199
- 512GB: $1,399
The iPhone 12 Pro Max is the largest of the phones with a massive 6.7-inch display. It’s otherwise essentially the same as the iPhone 12 Pro but is priced at $1,099 for the 128GB version. The largest model, at 512GB, is $1,399.
The iPhone 12 Mini
- 64GB: $699
- 128GB: $749
- 256GB: $849
The iPhone 12 Mini is a throwback to older iPhone models. It takes all the features and capabilities of the iPhone 12 and puts it in a smaller frame with a modest 5.4-inch display, great if you favor smaller phones. It comes in the same color palettes as the iPhone 12 and sells for $699 (for the 64GB version). Other capacities are available, including the 128GB version for $749.
When is the iPhone 12 release date?
The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro are being release on Friday, Oct 23. The other two models — the iPhone Pro Max and iPhone Mini — are being released on Friday, Nov. 13. If you preorder any of these models, you should receive your phone on the release date, the same as when it’s available at retail.
Will the iPhone 12 sell out?
It’s likely. There are signs that some retailers are already running low on inventory, so if you don’t order an iPhone 12 soon, you may need to wait until after the release date to receive one.
What are the iPhone 12 colors?
The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini will be available in five colors: black, red, white, green, and blue. The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max have a different set of colors to choose from. Those models are available in gold, silver, graphite, and blue.
