A self-published novelist who wrote an essay titled How to murder your husband and then killed her own has been jailed for life.
Nancy Crampton Brophy, 71, was convicted of second-degree murder on May 25 after a seven-week trial.
She has the possibility of parole after 25 years in custody, KGW-TV reported.
Crampton Brophy fatally shot her husband Daniel Brophy, 63, in 2018 for a $1.5m (£1.2m) life insurance pay-out, prosecutors said.
They had been married for 26 years but at the time of the murder the couple had faced financial difficulties, the jury heard.
Crampton Brophy bought a “ghost gun” kit online and later purchased a Glock 17 handgun at a gun show ahead of the killing, the prosecution said.
She gave evidence saying her research into ghost guns was preparation for a novel and the life insurance policies were part of their retirement plan.
The case courted attention due to her essay How to murder your husband penned years before her crime.
But the piece was not permitted as evidence at trial.
“The thing I know about murder is that every one of us have it in him/her when pushed far enough,” she had said in the now-deleted post.
Her lawyers said they plan to appeal.
