How to make your own Spotify festival line up with Instafest

If you missed out on this year’s festival season because the line ups just didn’t take your fancy, then don’t worry, now you can make your own. A new app called Instafest has been released which lets you create a line up for your own music festival based on your listening habits.

The free app – created by University of Southern California student Anshay Saboo – lets users generate a line up for their own personalised festival based on which artists they listen to on Spotify. You can customise the festival headliners based on your most-listened to artists from the past four weeks, six months, or of all time.

There are also different styles of festival poster to choose from, with users able to choose from options including Malibu Sunrise, LA Twilight, or Mojave Dusk. The app also calculates a ‘Basic Score’ based on your listening habits – the lower your score, the more niche the line up.

You can also come up with your own festival name once the poster is generated, with the option to either show or hide your username – as well as your Basic Score. Creating your own festival line up is easy, and can be done by simply signing in to your Spotify account via the link on the Instafest app here .

For those of you without a Spotify account, Instafest also lets you generate a line up using your Last.fm account, and the developer is working on adding support for Apple Music. Speaking to TechCrunch, he explained how he came up with the idea after wondering which artists he would book for Coachella if it was up to him.

He said: “I had the idea when I was in bed scrolling through TikTok one day. I saw people were posting videos from Coachella and I started thinking about how I would set the Coachella lineup if I could pick the artists.

“The thought process led to me thinking about generating a music festival graphic using a Spotify integration, and I built off from there.”

The app has generated quite a buzz on social media, with many users taking to Twitter to show off their impressive – or questionable – music tastes. Saboo told TechCrunch that already more than 5m people have generated their own Instafest poster.

Instafest’s launch comes days before Spotify releases its much-anticipated Wrapped, which shows customised listening habits across music and podcasts throughout the year for every user.
