McDonald's may be best known for burgers, but it's the breakfast McMuffins which many customers will miss the most during lockdown.
Maccies' morning menu is so sought after that McDonald's recently extended the breakfast hours from 10.30am to 11am, due to demand from customers who would race to get to their nearest branch before the menu boards switch around as McMuffins are swapped for Big Macs.
McDonald's will stay shut during the coronavirus lockdown, but customers can have a go at making their own Sausage and Egg McMuffins at home. McDonald's shared the recipe and method with customers signed up to its mailing list.
The easy to follow recipe requires four main ingredients: and English muffin, sausage meat, an egg and a slice of American style cheese.
If you don't have pre-sliced American cheese, you could always slice up whatever cheese is in your fridge. Who knows, it might even taste better.
Sausage meat, obviously, is found inside sausages. You can split open their skins to remove the meat and form it into burger-shaped patties. Scottish-style square - or lorne - sausage would work a treat too.
For the egg, you're going to need an egg ring, to get that perfect round shape like you'd find at Maccies. You'll also need a small frying pan and a grill.
How to make a McDonald's Egg McMuffin at home
McDonald's has shared the below recipe:
English muffin
Toast until golden brown.
75g sausage meat
Season with a pinch of salt and pepper then shape into balls. Flatten into patty shapes and cook under a pre-heated grill for 6–7 minutes on each side (or as per instructions on packaging).
1 egg
Brush the inside of a metal ring with a little oil and place in a small frying pan. Pour in just enough water to cover the base then bring to the boil. Crack the egg into the ring, cover the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes.
1 American cheese slice
Assemble your McMuffin by layering the patty and egg on top of a slice of cheese... and enjoy!
