How to Get Your Smile Ready for Summer

The festive season is well and truly in full flow.

But the return of Christmas trees and mass gift-giving can mean only one thing – New Year's resolutions are only weeks away.

If working on your smile will be your focus for 2025, let the experts in dental care show you how to get your smile ready for summer 2025!

How to get ready for a smile makeover in 2025

It might seem a bit excessive but a bit of focus now could make all of the difference when you are ready to take the plunge with treatment.

To get started, follow our top tips to get your smile ship shape and shiny!

1. Figure out specifically what you want to change

It might be obvious for some, but our dentist Barnes-wide frequently sees patients who want to change something about their smile – but they don’t know exactly what.

Others know exactly what it is and have long since narrowed down what they don’t like about their smile.

Top issues include teeth that are:

  • Misaligned or wonky
  • Discoloured and stained
  • Missing or rotten
  • Too small or too long
  • Unevenly spaced

Whatever it is about your smile, it's worth taking the time to identify exactly what you don’t like so you can discuss this with your dental professional when you are ready.

Plus, deciding ahead of time also helps you to find the right professional for the job. If you don’t like the size of your teeth you’ll need a cosmetic dentist who can help with gum reshaping while uneven teeth can be rectified with the help of an orthodontist in Hammersmith.

2. Try to get on top of your oral hygiene

Most dental professionals can only work on cosmetic or orthodontic issues if your teeth and gums are generally healthy – if not, you’ll need to correct this first.

As such, take some extra time to improve your at-home cleaning routine and, if you can, book in for a hygienist appointment for a professional cleaning.

A scale and polish from a professional can remove historic tartar that can encourage periodontal (gum) disease development – and also improve the shade of your teeth in the process.

At-home cleaning should:

  • Be thorough– remember to brush all four quadrants for a full 2 minutes in total, twice a day at least.
  • Include flossing – floss or use interdental brushes at least once a day beforebrushing to cover the two-thirds of the teeth that are usually missed!
  • Incorporate extras– like a fluoride mouthwash or sugar-free gum at times of the day when you can’t brush but have enjoyed food and drinks, such as after a coffee and a sneaky afternoon biscuit.

3. Start saving

If you are looking for cosmetic or orthodontic care, this will likely not be covered by NHS providers.

This means you will need to find a private provider who can help if you don’t already have one.

Having a little saved ahead of time – no matter how small – can mean the start of treatment runs smoother and doesn’t affect your normal monthly outgoings.

Even in the long month of January!

Don’t worry though, private doesn’t always mean pricey and many clinics also offer finance so you can spread the cost monthly instead of paying a lump sum right away.

Start your journey toward a stunning summer smile

Whether you have a dream holiday, family wedding, or even graduation to look forward to – our experienced and helpful dental professionals can get you picture-perfect with a smile makeover.

Plus, with a little forward-thinking (and by following our tips), your treatment journey could be even smoother than you might think!
