How to get to Electric Picnic - bike, trains, cars, parking, camping and more

Electric Picnic 2022 is finally here as thousands of people prepare to descend on Stradbally from tomorrow for a weekend of music, arts and craic.

Many will have their transport sorted, their packing done, and will be eagerly awaiting the trip down to the Laois location for the three-day event.

Others will still be debating what the best way to travel down over the weekend is, so here are all of the options available whether you’re taking a bus, train, car or bike there.

Drop off and pick-up

The pickup and drop-off points for the festival are located in Green Car Park Z and is accessed by pedestrians through Paintball Gate.

By bus

There are a number of services operating across the country to get festival-goers to and from Stradbally safely.

Travelmaster - will run a nationwide return service to Electric Picnic from €30, from September 1 to 4.

Irish Concert Travel – Will run a nationwide return service from €35. The service to Electric Picnic will run on September 2 with the return journey on September 5

Martley’s will be running a shuttle bus from Portlaoise train station to Stradbally. This is a cash-only service. The cost will be €7 each way.

There are also a number of buses to Stradbally departing from Portlaoise Rail Station from Thursday to Monday that will run every 30 minutes.

Buses to Concerts – Will run Buses To Concerts will be running coaches to the Electric Picnic 2022 from the 2nd-4th September, 2022.

There will also be return journeys with the same company from September 5 at 9 am from Coach Park.

By car

According to organisers, there are a number of routes drivers can take this weekend.

M7 Southbound (from Dublin and the North)

Event car traffic should exit the M7 at Ballydavis Interchange Junction 16. Please follow event traffic signage and Garda on duty will direct you to the designated parking areas.

M7 Northbound (Limerick and the South West)

Continue on M7 and exit at Junction 17. Please follow event traffic signage and Garda on duty will direct you to the designated parking areas.

M8 Northbound (Cork and South)

Exit the M8 at Junction 3 for Ballacolla and Abbeyleix. Please follow event traffic signage and Garda on duty will direct you to the designated parking areas.

N80 Carlow & South East

Travel along the N80 and N78 to Simmons Mills and proceed via the Windy Gap into Stradbally. Turn left at Court Square (opposite Dunne’s pub) onto Timahoe Road and turn left into the designated car park.

N80 West

Proceed via Mountmellick and onto Portlaoise Town. At Fairgreen Roundabout turn right onto the ring road. Continue to Mountrath Road R445 and turn right. Continue to Rockdale Roundabout and turn left onto Ring Road L26964-0. Turn right at the Roundabout onto the N77 to Meelick Junction where the traffic route merges with event traffic from M7 Northbound and Limerick South West, above.

By train

Portlaoise Train Station is the closest station to the festival. There will be a shuttle bus service from the Train Station to Electric Picnic.

Martley’s will be running a shuttle bus from Portlaoise train station to Stradbally. It is a cash-only service which will cost will be €7 each way.

By bike

Anyone arriving by bike should come through the Tour de Picnic area. They can be left in the designated area adjacent to the Tour de Picnic bike racks.

You will need to sign up for Tour de Picnic to secure your ticket to this year’s festival which is raising money for three worthy causes.

Parking

Parking is free and there will be access to a yellow, red and green car park.

The Green Car Park is open from 16.00 on Thursday, September 1 for Early Entry ticket holders only. The Red & Yellow Car Parks are open from 09:00 on Friday, September 2 until 13:00 Monday, September 5. The car park is staffed 24 hours a day during this period.
