Struggling to find the location of Link’s legendary Master Sword? It’s a lot more involved than in Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but we’ve got your back.
For as fun as Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s new Fuse ability is, letting you attach almost any available material or device to whatever weapon you just so happen to be holding, there’s no substitute for Link’s beloved Master Sword. You get a brief glimpse at its power during the prologue, true, but if you don’t know where you should be going, it’ll be an extremely long time until you see it again. It’s an iconic piece of The Legend of Zelda lore, so that simply won’t do.
If you want to explore this dilapidated version of Hyrule completely unspoiled and hope you bump into the Master Sword on your own, go for it. However, if you’re interested in knowing what the Master Sword actually does, where it is and what you need to do to pull it, we’ve got all that information detailed here to help save yourself some time.
Where to find the Master Sword in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
The Master Sword is located on the head of the Light Dragon. But, Before embarking on your journey to pull the Master Sword, you’ll want to make sure you have at least two full rings of stamina.
This can be upgraded in a similar way to Zelda: Breath of the Wild, by completing shrines (yes, there’s a lot of them) to get a Light of Blessing and visiting any one of the Goddess Statues littered around Hyrule’s towns. Completing around 20 shrines, at least without opting to upgrade Link’s health, should do it.
With your stamina meter built, you’ll need to land on top of a creature known as the Light Dragon. Reaching the top of this flying beastie can prove a bit tricky, however, as it follows a pre-set path across the sky. You’ll likely have seen the Light Dragon flying around because Central Hyrule is one of the earliest locations you visit, and it’s the perimeter of this location that the Light Dragon constantly circles. It’s possible to mark the Light Dragon’s current location if you complete the Recovering the Hero’s Sword quest line, but you likely won’t bump into it until much later in the game.
Therefore, your best shot at landing on the Light Dragon safely is by finding a high up location, like the Water Temple, timing it correctly so that the Light Dragon’s path is directly or thereabouts underneath Link’s fall path. Depending on its location, you might want to use a battery-powered Zonai device like the glider to get as close as possible. When you reach the Light Dragon, run up to its head and pull it using your two full stamina circles. Voila! The Master Sword is yours.
What does the Master Sword in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom do?
It’ll be music to the ears of many to learn that the Master Sword in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom cannot break – yes, you read that correctly. It doesn’t have an explicit attack value like all the other weapons in the game, but you can still attach various materials and items to it to strengthen its ability. When the material loses its luster, the Master Sword won’t break but it will be out of action while it recharges in Link’s inventory.
The other cool feature of the Master Sword in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is that when Link has full hearts, holding down the R button will see it unleash a giant beam of light that can be aimed at enemies. It’s a sword of projectile that replaces Link’s ability to throw it at enemies, because let’s be honest, why would you want to throw it away? Use the power of the Master Sword wisely.
