How to get free fish and chips every Friday this summer by sharing a photo online

Hundreds of portions of fish and chips are being given away for free this summer - we explain how to get your hands on one.

Vinegar brand Sarson’s is reimbursing chippie dinners to help support families and businesses amid the cost of living crisis.

The deal will run every Friday until September 2, with 100 portions being given away every week, up to a maximum value of £9.50.

This comes as part of #SarsonsFryday campaign, which celebrates the tradition of fish and chip Fridays.

To claim a free dinner, fish and chip fans need only snap a photo of their order complete with Sarson’s vinegar, either a bottle, a sachet or any promotional signage.

They then must share it to Twitter or Instagram tagging @SarsonsUK and #SarsonsFryday.

To be valid, all entries must ensure they are following the Sarson’s social channels to be considered and have proof of purchase via a receipt for their meal.

The initiative is being launched by Adam Woodyatt, who plays the bonafide chippy-owner Ian Beale in EastEnders.

On the campaign Adam says: “#SarsonsFryday is a fantastic way to reward the loyal customers who keep our fish & chip shops open for business.

“It’s fair to say I know a thing or two about running a fish bar, and I encourage everyone to head to their nearest chippie and get their order in pronto, you never know it might be free!”

Bryan Carroll, Deputy Chief Operating Officer of Sarson’s, said: “The rising cost of living means we’re naturally all looking for ways to cut down our expenses, and sadly, one of the first thing that consumers cut back on is meals out and takeaways, leaving many of our favourite chippies at risk.

“As we enjoy the warmer weather, we wanted to help the nation support their local so we’re making everyone’s favourite day of the week even better with #SarsonsFryday.

“Whether it’s a staycation with friends, seaside visit with the whole family or a quiet Friday night in, we want to make sure Brits can get their fish and chip fix - so this summer, it’s on us!“

It comes after new analysis warned how chip shops on the brink of closure have faced startling price rises of more than 13% - but business owners warn the picture is even bleaker.

Industry bosses fear the cost of living crisis could force 3,000 of the UK's estimated 10,500 chippies to close as Brits will no longer have the cash for the traditional treat.
