Fast food giant Burger King is paying homage to its most famous dish by dedicating a whole day to it – and they’re giving away free burgers to boot.
The restaurant chain has declared today, April 17, to be Whopper Wednesday, with all of its UK locations only serving the signature beef burger for the entire day – hard luck, Chicken Royale fans.
“Make no mistake, should a customer attempt to order anything other than a Whopper off the menu, they will swiftly be reminded that for one day only the Home of the Whopper has only got one option,” said Burger King.
Devotees of the Whopper – a quarter-pounder beef burger topped with tomatoes, lettuce, mayonnaise, pickle and white onions in a sesame bun – will be even more pleased to know that there are opportunities to get a free flame-grilled burger today.
All customers need to do is to download the Burger King app and register, which will allow them to enter any participating store in the UK and claim a Whopper free of charge.
If Burger King keenos are unable to make it down to a restaurant on Whopper Wednesday, the brand will also be adding a free Whopper into any online delivery order made via Deliveroo.
Burger King was founded in Jacksonville, Florida in 1953. The Whopper became its signature burger in 1957 after it was created by James McLamore and originally sold for just 37 cents.
