How to fix the Apex Legends patching files error

As a new big update has dropped for Apex Legends, including all of Season 14’s new features, players have been finding one error particularly troublesome. This particular error rears its head whenever a big update drops, and some players find their launchers stuck on patching files during the download. This occurs on the PC version of the game, through both Steam and Origin.

We’ll let you know how to fix it so you can get back in the action as soon as possible.

‘Stuck on patching files’ error - Apex Legends

The first and easiest way to fix this problem is to kickstart the download to launch the game. You can do this by closing Steam/Origin, opening Task Manager and clicking “End Task” to close them manually. You can open Task Manager by hitting Esc, Shift & Ctrl, or by searching for it on your start menu.

Then, restart your chosen platform and the download should restart, and it’ll hopefully fix the issue. You can try doing this a few times if it doesn’t work the first.

If this still hasn’t solved the issue after a few tries, you may need to repair your game files. On Steam you can do this by right-clicking on Apex Legends, go to “Properties”, “Local Files”, and then click on “Verify integrity of the game files”. On Origin click on the gear icon when selecting the game from your library and click the “Repair” button. Then, once again restart Steam or Origin to get the download going again.

If the issue persists after this, then your hard drive is likely the issue, meaning you’ll have to seek technical support or potentially replace your hard drive.
