The Wirral council is looking to help homes across the borough with the Sustainable Warmth Fund.
The grants are part of a wider scheme secured by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority to help residents with the costs of making their homes both warmer and more sustainable. The funding is available for almost 500 homes in Wirral.
It will offset the costs of work done to homes for things such as including insulation, glazing, solar panels or low carbon heating which will make houses warmer, greener and overall more sustainable. There are different amounts of funding available and the relevant eligibility criteria will depend on the makeup of your home and how your home is heated.

You will be eligible for the fund if your total household income is below £30,000 per year, or below the Minimum Income Standard, which you can find out here. Your home also must have an Energy Performance Certificate rating of E, F or G, which you can check here.
However, if your property doesn't have an Energy Performance Certificate you can still apply to the funding.
If your application is a success, Wirral council will arrange a visit to your home to carry out a survey, which will see if your home is eligible for insulation for solid walls, cavity walls, lofts, suspended timber floors, rooms-in-roofs, double glazing, solar panels and air source heat pumps.
If successful how much you will receive depends on how your home is heated. If you own and live in your own home, and your home is heated by gas, you will be eligible for works costing up to £10,000. If you rent a property, which is heated by gas, you will be eligible for works up to £5,000, with your landlord expected to pay for a third of the overall costs.
If your home is not heated by gas, then depending on your Energy Performance Certificate rating and fuel type you will be eligible for works costing between £10,000 and £25,000. The same goes for rented properties, but again, your landlord will be expected to pay a third of the costs.
The council recommends that tenants living in rented properties speak to their landlord before applying for the funding.
The council plans on scheduling the first surveys in early Summer 2022. All work is expected to be completed by March 2023
The council will get back to you by the end of June, upon appointment of the surveying company. You can apply to the funding here.
