How to download your NHS Covid Pass after app goes down and disrupts travellers

The NHS Covid Pass, a digital record of individuals’ vaccine records, became temporarily inaccessible

British travellers were left struggling to board their flights on Thursday night after the NHS Covid Pass system went down for several hours.

Users trying to access proof of their vaccination status via the NHS app and website found the service was unavailable, with the app informing users: “We are sorry the NHS Covid Pass is currently unavailable.

“At this time there is no alternative route for accessing this information via the NHS app or online. If you have already downloaded the information then your access should not be affected.”

NHS Digital later tweeted: “The Covid-19 pass is now working as normal and we will continue to monitor overnight. Thank you for your patience and apologies for any inconvenience caused.”

Frustrated holidaymakers took to social media to share that they were unable to check in at airports because they could not prove their vaccination status, the Guardian reported.

The requirement for people to show the pass to visit events was scrapped in February, but it is still used for travellers to prove their vaccination status abroad when travelling to certain countries.

Here’s everything you need to know about how to view your proof of vaccination.

How do you download the Covid travel pass app?

You can download the NHS App if you’re aged 13 or over and are registered with a GP in England or the Isle of Man. If you’re in Wales, you cannot use the app.

If you already have the NHS Covid App, your NHS Pass will still be there when you log back in.

For more information, visit the NHS App website and find out more about the NHS App.

If you’re struggling to see your NHS Covid Pass on the app, to see your health records you will need to give high-level proof of who you are.

You can do this using either photo ID or the account details you use for your GP surgery’s online service.
