How to cook crispy jacket potatoes without using the oven in 25 minutes

A man has shared a time-saving hack for cooking the perfect crispy baked potato - and you don't even have to turn on the oven for it.

Jacket potatoes make the perfect easy lunch or dinner, as they're simple to prepare and can be filled with whichever topping you like. However, cooking them in an oven can be time-consuming, which isn't ideal when you haven't got a lot of time to cook.

This simple hack only takes 25 minutes, according to TikToker @Immyhus. He also said that it makes the potatoes "crispy and buttery" as he uses the air fryer and microwave to cook them instead of the oven, the Express reports.

In the short video, he said: "Crispy, buttery jacket potato - and you can do this at home, it’s very easy.

"What you’re going to do is poke some holes in your potatoes,” and they used a fork to do so.

"Put them in the microwave with a little bit of water," he added.

Then, he placed the two potatoes on a plate with a small glass containing an inch of water. He said this "cheeky tip" will prevent the spuds from drying out while cooking.

After they had cooked in the microwave for eight to 10 minutes, he sprayed them with olive oil and sprinkled salt and pepper on top for some seasoning, rubbing them to really lock in the flavour.

The TikToker then popped the jacket potatoes into the air fryer basket, which had been lined with a piece of tin foil.

The air fryer was then set to 180 degrees Celsius, and the timer was set to 15 minutes.

"That should be enough to get the potato nice and crispy, and all soft on the inside,” the video explained.

He added: "Jacket potatoes are one of those meals I can have any time of day; lunch or dinner." He then topped his jackets with butter, cheese and beans.

If you do use the oven to make jacket potatoes, there are a few things you can do to speed up the cooking process.

Wrapping it in tin foil makes them cook quicker, and if you add a pile of salt to the bottom of the potato before covering, it gives it plenty of extra flavour.
