The day that many Brits have been counting down to is finally here, as polls opened for the General Election this morning.
If you use Facebook or Instagram , there are several ways to show your friends that you’ve voted, and encourage them to do the same.
Steve Hatch, VP of Facebook in Northern Europe, said: “On election day we’ll have reminders to vote in Facebook newsfeeds as well as special stickers on Messenger and Instagram so people can tell friends and family they’ve voted.
“We hope we can do our bit to help get people down to their polling station today.”
An election day reminder will appear at the top of British users’ Facebook News Feeds, linking to the ‘Where Do I Vote UK’ website, with information on where to vote.
This also includes a ‘share you voted’ button, so you can let your friends and family know that you voted.
Meanwhile, on Instagram, you can now use ‘Vote’ and ‘I voted’ stickers, which again, link to the ‘Where Do I Vote UK’ website.
And if you want to tell your friends exactly how you voted, you can add a special frame to your Facebook Profile Picture.
How to add a frame to your Facebook Profile Picture
- Go to facebook.com/profilepicframes
- In the Search box, type in the name in the party that you voted for
- A range of options will appear on the left hand side of the page - choose which frame you’d like to add
- Once you’re happy with your selection, reposition your profile picture on the right hand side by dragging the image into place, or using the scroll bar below the picture
- At the bottom of the page, choose how long you’d like to add the frame for. Options range from one hour to indefinitely
- Once you’re happy with the picture, click ‘Use as Profile Picture’
