How Tierney reacted to Storm Eunice in Arsenal training as wonderkid could replace Martinelli

Arsenal's preparations for Saturday's Premier League clash with Brentford may have been disrupted, but they are complete.

With Storm Eunice wreaking havoc in the UK on Friday, 24 hours before Gunners take on the Bees at the Emirates Stadium, Mikel Arteta revealed how training plans at London Colney had to change.

"We had to change the session," the Arsenal manager revealed in his pre-match press conference. "It was too windy to do what we wanted to do so we had to adapt and do one part inside and one part outside.

"We were safe which is the most important thing and we managed to do some bits."

Amid The Met Office issuing red weather warnings that will cause travel chaos for supporters traveling to the Emirates, should the game go ahead, Arsenal have a chance to avenge the 2-0 defeat in the reverse fixture at the start of the season.

Results last weekend handed the Gunners a major boost in their quest for a top-four finish, but it's important they don't drop points at home to a Brentford side in a poor run of form.

Before the big Premier League game, Arteta and his coaching staff put the Gunners squad through their paces during a training session at London Colney on Friday afternoon.

As usual, there has been media footage released to get fans in the mood.

With that said, here's what we spotted from the training pictures and what it tells us ahead of the game against Brentford.

Dream scenario (almost)

Mikel Arteta has the dream scenario heading into the game against Brentford. Well almost.

The big update from his pre-match conference was that both Takehiro Tomiyasu and Bernd Leno are in contention to return to the matchday squad after missing out against Wolves last time out.

As a result, every single first-team player is fit. However, not all are available for selection as Gabriel Martinelli serves his one-game suspension after being sent off at Molineux.

This shouldn't be too much of a problem for Arteta as he can recall top scorer Emile Smith Rowe to the starting lineup or hand Nicolas Pepe a rare Premier League start.

Of course, the Spaniard will be hoping this dream scenario remains intact ahead of next week's clash at home to Wolves as he could be presented with a healthy selection dilemma.

Hutchinson could replace Martinelli

With Martinelli unavailable for selection on Saturday because of suspension, it's likely that one academy player will be called up by Arteta to replace the Brazilian in the squad.

As Premier League teams are permitted to name a 20-man matchday squad for each game, the fact that the Gunners only have 18 outfield players available for selection could create an exciting opportunity for Omari Hutchinson.

Interestingly when Tomiyasu was ruled out of the trip to Wolves, youngster Zach Awe was named in a Gunners senior matchday squad for the very first time as he provided defensive cover alongside left-back Nuno Tavares.

So with Hutchinson very similar to Martinelli in terms of position, could the wonderkid be in line to be Arsenal's 20th man against Brentford?

Judging from Friday's training session at London Colney he could very well be.

Whilst defender Mazeed Ogungbo also trained with the first-team, Arsenal's need for more attacking options on the bench in Martinelli's absence could lead to Hutchinson being named on the bench for a fourth time at senior level.

That appears to be the plan unless Arthur Okonkwo gets the nod and Arteta names two goalkeepers on the bench.

How Arsenal quartet reacted to Storm Eunice

As previously mentioned, Storm Eunice caused minor disruption to Arsenal's final training session on Friday.

One part took place indoors and the other part took place outside.

Looking at the images and it would appear that some players may have preffered to stay inside for the whole session as the effects of the storm were certainly visible for a few.

Particularly, Rob Holding, Bukayo Saka, Thomas Partey and Nicolas Pepe.

As Holding and Saka braved the reported 88mph wind, the defender was holding on to the winger perhaps in an attempt to stop the Arsenal ace from being blown away.

Not to be outdone by Pepe as he appeared to be using Partey as some sort of protective shield.

The quartet did get used to the conditions as the training session wore on, with Holding sporting a huge smile across his face and Saka seemed like he was enjoying himself too.

Classic Tierney

No matter the weather conditions, Kieran Tierney's training attire simply doesn't change.

With everyone else opting to wear as many clothes as possible considering there's a chill in the air as well as a storm making things a lot more difficult, the Scot stayed true to form.

Instead of opting to put on a jumper or even copy the likes of Martinelli, Gabriel Magalhaes and Benjamin White by wearing a hat, Tierney stuck to his tradition of a t-shirt and shorts.
