Reading about a BBC show where people 'murder' their teammates, it's easy to see why The Traitors has become the TV show that everyone is talking. But thankfully the reality is way less sinister that it sounds.
The run up to Christmas is a rather strange time to launch a new reality show but BBC bosses' faith in the Traitors has definitely paid off as, after its first episode aired last week, it quickly became what would have been referred to in the 90s and 00s as 'watercooler TV,' as people rushed to exchange opinions on it with other viewers.
Very different to the BBC 's usual midweek TV output, The Traitors is a very brutal concept in which three of the contestants are selected by host Claudia Winkleman to be traitors on the first day of filming, in a secret ceremony to protect their identities from the rest of the team. The savage nature of the show was emphasised in the opening moments of its launch episode, when two people were sent packing by Claudia before even entering the castle just because they ranked themselves as least likely to win.

As the Faithful (those who aren't Traitors) to to work out who among them aren't what they claim to be, the Traitors meet in secret every night to choose which of their co-stars to murder, although thankfully for all concerned, no killing is actually carried out. The show might go out after the 9pm watershed but things don't go that far!
How do The Traitors murder people on BBC show?
Rather than brutally picking off their rivals in the dead of night, once the Traitors have made their decision on who to 'murder,' the person in question is summoned to receive a letter informing them of their fate and told to leave the game straight away.
So far the Traitors have got rid of two real favourites within the group, with the Aisha the first to go, after she had pointed the finger of suspicion at a number of her castmates. Following her exit, the remaining contestants had their first round table ceremony, when they chose to get rid of Faithful Nicky, wrongly accusing her of being a Traitor.
