Despite Liverpool’s heritage with music and even being labelled the ‘World Capital City of Pop’ by the Guinness Book of Records, the city’s relationship with the Eurovision Song Contest is chequered. They will be hoping that it doesn't get worse as it has been revealed that the FA Cup Final between Liverpool and Chelsea has been moved forward due to the international songwriting competition.
In the 2021 and 2020 FA Cup finals, kick off was at 5.15pm and 5.30pm respectively but this Saturday the game begins at 4.45pm. This is due to the fact that Eurovision also takes place on Saturday. Due to BBC scheduling issues, the FA Cup final has been brought forward in a surreal turn of events.
Eurovision will be broadcasted from 6.15 to 7.15pm on BBC Two with the FA Cup final on BBC One until 7.15pm, assuming there is no extra time and penalties. Eurovision then takes over on BBC One from 8pm after a 45 minute break. However if extra time and penalties are on the horizon, the FA Cup final will impact the coverage of Pointless Celebrities which is planned between 7.15pm to 8pm.

The city’s worst experience of Eurovision was in 2003 when Liverpool duo Jemini became the first UK act to receive zero votes with their rendition of Cry Baby. Reds fans will be hoping that they are not left cursing the competition after Saturday, and will perhaps be able to tune in after a second trophy of the season is secured.
