It would make sense that Taylor Swift has a connection to one of the greatest poets of our time. And yes, you can make all the Tortured Poets Department jokes here.
Per Ancestry, which revealed the news to the Today show, they’re distant cousins — specifically, sixth cousins, three times removed (confusing, I know, but we’ll get to that).
How exactly are they related? Here’s the answer: “Swift and Dickinson both descend from a 17th century English immigrant (Swift’s 9th great-grandfather and Dickinson’s 6th great-grandfather who was an early settler of Windsor, Connecticut).”
Swift’s family eventually ended up in Pennsylvania, of course.
Genealogy company Ancestry has found that Taylor Swift, whose upcoming album is titled “The Tortured Poets Department,” is related to legendary American poet Emily Dickinson, TODAY exclusively revealed. https://t.co/UmFGdsgPBO
