Strikes will continue across the public sector in Britain on Monday as NHS staff and Border Force staff walk out.

It comes as part of a deepening wave of industrial action across the public sector, with unions calling for a pay rise to match inflation and shield staff from the cost of living crisis.

The Standard explains how strikes could affect you on Monday, February 20.

Ambulances

Ambulance workers will mount picket lines in Wales and seven of the ten ambulance trusts in England in a bitter dispute over pay.

The Unite and GMB unions are involved, but the strike will not affect the London Ambulance Service as workers are members of Unison.

Members of Unite will continue strikes in Wales on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The strikes will affect calls that are not life-threatening, which are known as Category One calls. These include cardiac arrests or any condition with an imminent threat to life.

Anyone in a medical emergency should still call 999, the NHS has said.

However, those with serious conditions such as stroke or chest pain could face a delay when calling an ambulance.

Anyone with non-urgent needs should contact the 111 helpline or your local GP or pharmacy.

Meanwhile, strikes are suspended in Scotland as unions discuss a new pay offer of 14 per cent over a two year period.

Border Force

Border Force staff will end their four-day strike at 7am on Monday.

The action only affects international flights arriving in the UK – but there is likely to be disruption after the strike ends.

Military staff and civil servants have stepped in to carry out border checks in a bid to minimise disruption.

The Government has said that families could face longer waits to have their passports checked at border control. People should use e-gates where possible.
