According to The Athletic’s NBA insider Shams Charania, the Boston “Celtics offered (Jaylen) Brown, Derrick White, and a draft pick to the (Brooklyn) Nets for (Kevin) Durant.” The proposal was reportedly rejected according to Charania, who went on to say that “Brooklyn has asked Boston — in any proposal — to include Brown, Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart, draft picks, and potentially one more player”.
Following that curiously timed leak, multiple NBA media outlets have since claimed the Celtics are an emerging threat to trade for the Nets star forward. Although, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst recently said the Celtics’ trade offer to Brooklyn for KD is likely weeks old: “I don’t think the Nets are involved in active talks right now. … those are not fresh talks.”
Yet that didn’t stop Brown from responding to his name being thrown around in trade rumors once again, tweeting out “SMH” cryptically. So the question remains, how serious are the reported Kevin Durant and Jaylen Brown trade talks if they are talks at all? Is Boston really going all in on the Durantula or are the Nets leaking false reports?
