How Rodgers' previous plans to start Dane Murray were scuppered by Storm Eowyn

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers' previous plans to start Dane Murray were scuppered by Storm Eowyn.

The central defender somewhat surprisingly got the nod for the Parkhead side yesterday evening against Raith Rovers and completed 90 minutes in the 5-0 victory.

It was Murray's first Celtic start since July 2021, when he got the nod against FC Midtjylland in a Champions League qualifier under Ange Postecoglou.

Rodgers, though, planned to bring the 21-year-old back into the team before Saturday and instead start him against Dundee a few weeks ago.

The game was postponed due to Storm Eowyn, although Murray eventually got his opportunity yesterday: "Dane would have started our Dundee game," said Rodgers (Premier Sports).

"The game that was cancelled, he was due to play in that game.

"He's someone I've liked.

"He's a young player who's come through the system. A really talented young player, [he] had a challenging time with injury.

"He's 6 foot 4, [has] good pace, and can play."

Murray spent the opening half of the current season on loan at Scottish Championship side Queen's Park.

He played regularly in Glasgow's southside under the stewardship of Callum Davidson and is now getting opportunities at his boyhood club.

The Scotland under-21 international contracted at Celtic until the summer of 2026.
