How Premier League clubs plan to pay tribute to Queen this weekend as Man City face Wolves

The Premier League have announced plans for clubs and fans to pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth II this weekend when Man City play Wolves.

Football fixtures across the UK were postponed last weekend following the Queen's death. The decision sparked plenty of debate as other sports continued playing, including England's Cricket team.

Manchester United's fixture against Leeds United, due to take place on Sunday, has been postponed alongside a handful of other cancellations this weekend, due to a shortage of police officers ahead of the Queen's funeral on Monday, September 19. However, City's game against Wolves is to go ahead as planned on Saturday, with kick-off at 12.30pm.

A Premier League statement read: "All Premier League matches between Friday 16 and Sunday, September 18 will provide an opportunity for the League, clubs and fans to come together to pay tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation and world.

"Fans will be asked to join a minute’s silence, which will be followed by the National Anthem, God Save The King .

"Big screens and LED perimeter boards will display tribute images to Her Majesty and flags at the grounds will be flying at half-mast. When the clock turns to 70 minutes, fans will be invited to applaud The Queen’s 70-year reign."

The Independent have also reported that managers will be encouraged to wear suits and lead their teams out ahead of the minute's silence. Black armbands will also be worn by both the players and match officials as a sign of respect.

Following the postponement of the match against Tottenham, this will be City's first Premier League match since their 1-1 draw against Aston Villa on September 3. The next time the Blues will play a domestic match in front of their own fans will be against rivals United on October 2.
