How old is David Walliams' son? The author opens up about his relationship with his only child

On May 6 2013, David Williams became a father for the first time when his then-wife Lara Stone gave birth to their son, Alfred.

Since then, the 49-year-old comedian has kept eight-year-old Alfred out of the spotlight - with Britain's Got Talent star and ex-wife Lara even concealing their son's face on any images of him shared on social media.

However, in recent months, David has opened up more about fatherhood and his relationship with his son in multiple, candid interviews.

Speaking on This Morning, the bestselling children's author revealed the sweet way in which his only child helped him pen his latest story.

Chatting with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield to promote his latest literature release, Mega Monster, David confessed that he has his eight-year-old son to partly thank for his huge success in the world of children's fiction.

"Yes, Alfred, he has lots of brilliant ideas," he answered This Morning presenter Holly when she quizzed him on how Alfred contributes to his creativity.

"We often talk about things we'd like to read stories about and he said, 'Wouldn't it be great if there was a monster made up of all the different scary monsters in the world and it'd be called the Mega Monster, Dad? That should be the title of your next book!' And I said, 'Okay, yeah that's a great title.'"

The Little Britain star then went on to reveal more about his sweet bond with his son, saying: "When we go on walks and stuff with the dog we often think about where the story could be set and he says, 'Dad you do the writing of it, the hard bit!'"

Alfred may only be eight years old but it seems that the youngster is already business savvy.

Not missing a trick, David revealed that his son had a cheeky comment to make when he realised his contribution to his father's work, saying: "But recently he said, 'Please can I have 50 per cent of the royalties?'"

He then revealed to presenter Phillip that he told his son he would "one day but not just yet".

This isn't the first time David has opened up about his life at home with his eight-year-old offspring.

Speaking in to HELLO! and other publications at a virtual event in earlier this year, the actor and author revealed his sweet post-lockdown plans with his son, Alfred.

"I've been talking to my son about that," he said when asked about what he was looking forward to doing once coronavirus restrictions were lifted.

"We've already planned going to Legoland, doing crazy golf, going to Go Ape and getting ice cream. So fun stuff with my son!"

During the same interview, the dad-of-one also quipped that he had "enjoyed the extra time with my son" when it came to home-schooling during the pandemic.

Speaking about this experience over the last year, the star said: "I also have a job that means I'm writing most of the time and I can do that at home on my own, so I feel like I don't have a lot to complain about!"

The former couple met in 2009, with the comedian popping the question to the 37-year-old Dutch model in Los Angeles just months after they started dating.

The pair married at London's Claridge's Hotel in May 2010 and two years later, in December 2012, announced they were expecting their first child, Alfred who they welcomed into the world on May 6 2013.

Following five years of marriage, the pair embarked on a trial seperation in March 2015, after 'drifting apart' which led to their subsequent divorce in September of the same year.
