How old is Arlene Phillips? I'm A Celebrity star becomes show's oldest contestant ever

Arlene Phillips has set a new record for the oldest ever contestant on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

After plenty of rumours that the former Strictly judge would appear in the new series of the ITV show, her name was indeed on the line-up, along with the likes of Frankie Bridge, Danny Miller and David Ginola.

Discussing being on I'm A Celebrity and concerns about her age, Arlene said: "Everything in your body changes as you get older.

“But in terms of being the oldest, I think I’ve always been the oldest. When I was 36 and I had my first baby, it was shock, horror – this geriatric mother having a baby.

"And then my second one at 47… I feel like I’ve always been the oldest at doing something, so it’s nothing really to me.”

How old is Arlene Phillips?

You might not believe it but ex Strictly judge Arlene is 78-years-old.

While, she is best known to millions of viewers as an original judge on the BBC show, Arlene's showbiz career started much earlier.

Arlene founded dance troupe Hot Gossip in 1974, who famously appeared on Sarah Brightman track I Lost My Heart To A Starship Trooper.

She has choreographed countless hit shows including Annie and Grease, as well as being at the helm of cult ITV series Britannia High.

Arlene left her job on Strictly in controversial circumstances, when she was sacked after four years in favour of Alesha Dixon, a former contestant on the show.

Last year, Arlene revealed she had launched an investigation into why she lost her coveted role on Strictly.

She told the Sod’s Law Podcast: “I’ve got the Freedom of Information and looking at the chaotic way that led up to it was shocking. Most is redacted.

"There's some information there and even that’s chaotic, let alone what was redacted from the report."

CBE recipient Arlene, who has also worked on shows like Saturday Night Fever and We Will Rock You, added: "I didn’t have a contract that automatically rolled on to the next year, but I think it was handled so poorly.”
