Striker Chris Wood received a round of applause from his Nottingham Forest teammates in the dressing room after scoring his first goal for the club.
The January signing clinched a crucial point for the Reds against Manchester City with a late equaliser at the City Ground. Having come on with 10 minutes to go, when he replaced Serge Aurier, Wood was well placed to finish off Morgan Gibbs-White’s cross to secure a 1-1 draw for Steve Cooper’s side.
Up until that point, it had been a tough start to life at Forest for the forward. He had seen little of the ball and had barely a sniff of goal in his three previous outings.

“It’s brilliant for him,” head coach Cooper said of Wood’s goal. “Any striker who joins a new club wants to get their first goal.
“He has gone from contributing for Newcastle but not starting games, to coming here and being a starter straight away. We haven’t created much for him in the games, if I’m being honest. Results haven’t been so bad, but we haven’t created loads of chances for him.
“That’s what he is - what he showed here. I’m so pleased the supporters gave him the reception they did afterwards, and equally as pleased with the reception he got off the players when he came in the dressing room. He was last in, because he had to do some media work, and he got a massive round of applause.
“He’s only been here a couple of weeks, but everyone can see how hard he works and how much he cares. He’s really bought into what we’re trying to do here.
“We need everybody to stick together and get behind everybody, so I’m really pleased they saw an important player for us score a goal - and an important goal as well.”
Getting on the scoresheet came after a purchase obligation had been triggered in his loan move from Newcastle United. Wood’s deal included a conditional obligation to buy, which has now been activated after he made three starts for the Reds.
