A major debate in Parliament was suddenly disturbed today as news of the declining health of the Queen emerged.
New Prime Minister Liz Truss, just days into her premiership, was in the middle of unveiling an enormous plan to tackle soaring energy bills in the House of Commons today, when news started to filter through into the chamber.
Political reporters in the Commons then suddenly started to report that notes were being passed to party leaders. Talk TV political correspondent Kate McCann reported that "something big" was happening in the Commons. She and others said notes were passed to Labour leader Keir Starmer via his deputy leader Angela Rayner, with a note also passed to Ms Truss from cabinet minister Nadhim Zahawi.

This was confirmed by Labour MP Chris Bryant, who tweeted: "Something odd is going on in the Commons. Zahawi briefing PM urgently."
After this, the Labour leader and deputy leader suddenly left the chamber, with the energy debate still in full flow. Ms Truss then too left the chamber, confirming something major was occurring.
Rumours immediately began to circulate on social media that this was all related to the Queen's health and this was confirmed shortly after via a short statement from Buckingham Palace. A palace spokesperson said: "Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen's doctors are concerned for Her Majesty's health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision. The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."
The news was then relayed to Members of Parliament by Speaker of the House Lindsay Hoyle, who said: "I know I speak on behalf of the entire House when I say that we send our best wishes to Her Majesty the Queen and that she and the royal family are in our thoughts and prayers at this moment.”
It has now been reported that Prince Charles and the Duke of Cambridge are travelling to Balmoral to be with the Queen, adding to the feeling that her health situation is very serious.
