How Newcastle United and Man United impacted unusual Crystal Palace vs Liverpool kick off time

It is match day for Crystal Palace as the Eagles welcome Liverpool to Selhurst Park in the Premier League.

Patrick Vieira's Eagles side welcome to Jurgen Klopp's men to south London, with the game kicking off at the unusual time of 7.45pm.

That is despite there being no lunchtime kick off today, while Fulham hosted Wolves in the Premier League on Friday night, with the game being shown live on Sky Sports and ending 1-1 at Craven Cottage.

So why is the game at Selhurst Park taking place at 7.45pm this evening?

According to the Mail, the inconvenient kick-off is a result of Sky Sports broadcasting the Carabao Cup final between Manchester United and Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon, with kick off at 4.30pm.

That means the main broadcasters of the Premier League will only televise one league fixture on Sunday, with Chelsea's visit to London rivals Tottenham Hotspur kicking off at 1.30pm.

As a result, Sky were able to choose another fixture from the list of 3pm kick offs on Saturday to fill their quota, with Crystal Palace's game against Liverpool being picked by the broadcaster.

However, it is understood that had Manchester City reached the Carabao Cup final then the game at Selhurst Park would have been brought forward to the 5.30pm slot.

There is no Premier League fixture on BT Sport this weekend, with the Newcastle United vs Brighton fixture scheduled to be shown live by the broadcaster at 12.30pm. But with the Magpies reaching the Carabao Cup final against Manchester United, the fixture at St James' Park was postponed, with no new date set for the game as yet.

That fixture will now be rescheduled for a later date between now and the end of the Premier League season, although it is the only game without a new date confirmed as yet.

Meanwhile, Manchester United's scheduled home fixture against Brentford this weekend has been rescheduled to Wednesday, April 5, with the game being switched due to the Red Devils' involvement in the Carabao Cup final.
