The NBA’s new collective bargaining agreement poses serious team-building challenges for the Boston Celtics at a critical moment in the franchise’s pursuit of another title, potentially leading to it to make tough roster decisions sooner rather than later to dodge the worst of those penalties early in what remains of the team’s contention window.
The new CBA introduces punitive measures that make it difficult for high-spending teams such as the Celtics to maintain their competitiveness and retain their talent over time. But Boston has a shot at getting the team both better next season and better positioned to avoid those penalties in the short term.
