How much will Rory McIlroy earn for 4th placed finish at Italian Open?

Rory McIlroy came agonisingly close to picking up another win this week, but a bogey late in his round ended his hopes of a 3rd win of the season.

The Northern Irishman did well to recover from a double bogey on the very first hole to put himself into contention for the title, but he ultimately came up just short by a couple of shots.

'Rors' finished his tournament on 12-under par, two shots behind Robert MacIntyre and Matthew Fitzpatrick who face off in a play-off to determine the winner.

World Number two McIlroy had to settle for fourth place this week. And while he will obviously be disappointed, the four time major winner will still be well compensated for his weeks work.

A fourth placed finish this week nets McIlroy a cool €150,000 cheque, which takes his seasons earnings to well over €8.4 million.

It was a bogey on 16 that pushed Rory back into fourth place, costing him the chance to take home the top prize of €500,000.
