West Ham United could earn north of £1million for allowing their players to attend the 2022 World Cup.
In total, five members of David Moyes’ current Hammers squad will be in action at the competition, with Declan Rice (England), Lucas Paqueta (Brazil), Thilo Kehrer (Germany), Nayef Aguerd (Morocco) and Alphonse Areola (France) all called up by their countries.
All clubs who have allowed players to represent their countries at the tournament in Qatar will be entitled to a portion of $209million (£177.7million) via FIFA’s Club Benefits Programme. Teams receive a percentage of the fund based on how many players they have at the competition and how long their respective nations are in the World Cup.

How it breaks down is that a club will receive around $10,000 (£8,500) per player for each day they are in the competition. With there being six days of training before the group stage, which lasts 13 days, each player will earn their club £161,500. That total will increase to just shy of £187,000 for players reaching the round of 16, almost £238,000 for the quarter-finals, £272,000 for the semi-finals, and almost £314,500 for the final.
With five West Ham players at the tournament, that will lead to around £807,500 just for the group stages. Should any of the five progress out of the group stage, that will progress even further, so from a financial point of view, West Ham will want their players to reach as far as possible in the competition.
However, of the five players in the tournament, other clubs will be entitled to a portion of the earnings for four of them. Because Paqueta (Olympique Lyonnais), Kehrer (Paris Saint-Germain), Areola (Pairs Saint-Germain and Fulham), and Aguerd (Stade Rennais) have represented other clubs in the last two years, those clubs will be entitled to a portion of West Ham’s total fee.
While Hammers forward Nikola Vlasic is currently on loan at Serie A side Torino, because he is a West Ham player and played for them last season, West Ham are likely to be entitled to part of the fee he commands.
