The Chicago Bears made a splash on the first day of the free agency negotiation window, agreeing to terms with four players.
The Bears signed linebackers Tremaine Edmunds (four years, $71 million) and T.J. Edwards (three years, $19.5 million), as well as offensive guard Nate Davis (three years, $30 million).
And, believe it or not, Chicago still has the most salary cap space in the NFL after the first day of action — even after spending roughly $120 million.
According to Spotrac, the Bears still have $50.8 million in cap space with the Edwards, Edmunds and Davis moves factored in. The total doesn’t include Walker’s contract — as the full details aren’t out yet — but Chicago is still going to be in a favorable position when all is said and done.
As for the 2023 cap hits for those individual players, Edmunds will account for $14.68 million, Davis for $7 million and Edwards for $5 million.
Heading into Day 2 of the negotiation period, general manager Ryan Poles still has plenty of work to do with the roster. There are still needs on the defensive and offensive lines — at three-technique and right tackle — where there are some intriguing names still on the market.
