How much Rangers have made in Europa League prize money this season as huge last 16 bounty looms large

There can be little doubt, Rangers have been good for the Europa League, and the Europa League has been good for Rangers.

The competition has provided the Ibrox club to re-establish themselves on the continental stage and they've served up some hugely memorably moments over the past few seasons.

None more so than last Thursday's stunning victory over Borussia Dortmund, which puts Giovanni van Bronckhorst 's side on the brink of the last 16.

Obviously, the benefits have not only been reputational, but financial as well.

Consistent progression to the knockout stage carries big incentives, even in UEFA's second-tier tournament and the club, who issued £4m in shares on Tuesday, have reaped considerable rewards.

But just how much have Rangers earned from this year's exploits so far?

Here, Record Sport Online crunches the numbers.

Prize money breakdown

Qualifying for group stage

£3,038,274

Group stage wins

£527,303 x 2 = £1,054,606

Group stage draws

£175,767 x2 = £351,534

Qualifying in second

£460,344

Reaching last 16 play-off

£418,940

TOTAL PRIZE MONEY = £5,323,698

Should Rangers hold off Dortmund in Thursday's last 16 play-off second leg at Ibrox, the club will bank a further £1,005,457 - a figure that's almost 20 per cent of the total they've earned until this point.

What about TV money?

The club will also receive a share of the TV market pool which, this season, comes in at £140,763,688 .

Half of that figure is split between all the clubs in the competition, and the other half between clubs who reach the knockout stages.

That money is split proportionally according to the relevant nations' TV markets, which means that although Rangers will get all of Scotland's share, this will be less than countries with larger broadcast deals, such as Italy, England and Spain.

The exact figure is not calculated until the end of the season.
