Sir Jim Ratcliffe has soared up the UK rich list as he continues to vie for ownership of Premier League giants Manchester United.
The Englishman who is chairman of INEOS has watched his net worth jump from £6.075 BILLION to £29.688bn over the last 12 months alone, an eye-watering increase of over £23bn. In a yearly Rich List compiled by The Sunday Times, it is cited that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and skyrocketing energy prices are the main driver for his increase in wealth.
Ratcliffe, who owns Ligue 1 club Nice and FC Lausanne in Switzerland, is looking to edge out rival bidder Sheikh Jassim bin Al Thani for the right to take Man United ownership off Glazer family hands. But his £6bn offer comes with the key caveat of the family retaining some shares and that may be enough to put him in pole position to buy the club he supported as a boy.
On Ratcliffe's potential Old Trafford takeover, The Sunday times state: “He’s up against stiff competition from other plutocrats and potentates, but reckons he’s in with a fighting chance.”
