How much lateral flow tests cost at pharmacies and supermarkets as free covid tests end

Coronavirus tests are no longer free for everybody in England.

Universal free testing ended on Friday April 1, as part of a switch to the "living with Covid" strategy. While some healthcare staff will still be routinely tested, for most people it means they will have to pay for Covid tests if they want to take one to make sure they have not got the virus before mixing with others.

The advice now for people with symptoms is to stay home, but they do not have to. Even if you test positive for Covid-19 now, you do not have to stay in, you are just advised to.

Those visiting elderly or clinically vulnerable friends and relatives may still want to take lateral flow tests to check they are safe to. Most major pharmacies sell the rapid tests for £2 or under.
