How much lateral flow Covid tests will cost at Boots with free testing set to end

Brits will have to fork out for Covid tests from April 1 due to the Government ending the free lateral flow service.

Boots, the UK's largest pharmacy chain, will be one port of call for anybody who needs to get hold of a test when England switches to its "Living with Covid" plan.

"Affordable" lateral flow tests will be available from Boots from March, but if you are required to report the results of your test to the UK Health Security Agency, it will cost more, and tests for travel abroad are priced even higher.

Asif Aziz, Director of Healthcare Services at Boots UK, said: “We are pleased to be expanding our Covid-19 testing services even further, with affordable lateral flow testing options for those who still want peace of mind from asymptomatic testing after 1 April.

“While it is great that we are returning to normal and finding a way to live with Covid-19, we encourage our customers and patients to stay safe and continue to take measures to limit the spread of the virus, especially to those in vulnerable groups.”

How much Boots charges for lateral flow covid tests

Lateral flow testing kits went on sale through Boots' online store today, following the Government announcement that free testing will end.

From today, customers can get a lateral flow test for £5.99, from Boots.com, or a pack of four for £17. Both prices include delivery. These tests "will offer customers an option to send their results to the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) to report a negative test, should customers need it", Boots says.

Boots will introduce a cheaper option in March, in the run-up to the Government ending free testing on April 1.

From early March, £2.50 single tests and packs of five tests for £12 will be available in store and online from Boots. Bundles of two tests will be sold for £4.75 and four tests at £9.50.

But the cheaper tests do not include the function to report the results to the UKSA. If you need to report negative test results to the Government, then you will need the more expensive tests.

Finally, customers will not be able to use the tests mentioned above for international travel purposes. Boots currently charges £14.99 for a travel certificate lateral flow self-test and £30 for a test administered in store.

Don't forget, people in the UK can order free lateral flow tests from Gov.uk until April 1. Individuals can order the kits once every 72 hours.
