Manchester United have earned an extra £2.2million by securing third spot in the Premier League.
A comeback victory over Fulham ensured a somewhat eventful day, despite United’s Champions League place already being secured. Kenny Tete opened the scoring before David de Gea denied Aleksandar Mitrovic from the spot to prevent the visitors from taking a two-goal cushion.
Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes fired the Reds in front and, from that point, they never looked back. Ten Hag, likely with one eye on next weekend’s FA Cup final, made seven changes to the side that thrashed Chelsea 4-1.

Whether United would finish third or fourth was the only thing left to play for on the final day. Victory ensured Newcastle United’s trip to Chelsea - which ended 1-1 - had zero bearing on the league table.
However, the superior league placing grants United additional Premier League prize money. Old Trafford chiefs are set to receive around £2.2million more than if Ten Hag’s side had finished fourth.
Astonishingly, that figure is still more than United will receive if they beat Manchester City at Wembley next weekend. The FA Cup winner for 2022-23 earns £2million, with the loser being compensated with £1million.
