The UK government has officially introduced new passport fees for all applications as February 2.
This means that people looking to renew their travel document will now have to pay more to travel overseas. The increase in fees comes for the first time in five years, with prices increasing for both children and adults.
People who are jetting away on their winter break soon may have avoided the hike. But many who have booked up for later in the year may be required to send away for a new, blue passport shortly.

So how much will it now cost me and how can you renew? Here is what you need to know.
How much it will cost to renew your UK passport as of February 2023
According to the Gov.uk website, the following charges will now apply:
- The fee for a standard online application made from within the UK will rise from £75.50 to £82.50 for adults and £49 to £53.50 for children
- Postal applications will increase from £85 to £93 for adults and £58.50 to £64 for children
- Priority service fees are being aligned so all customers will pay the same
- The fee for a standard online application when applying from overseas for a UK passport will rise from £86.00 to £94.00 for adults and £56 to £61.00 for children
- Overseas standard paper applications will increase from £95.50 to £104.50 for adults and £65.50 to £71.50 for children
How to renew your UK passport - online
You must renew your passport before you can travel if either your passport has expired or you do not have enough time left on it. It costs £75.50 to renew an adult passport. - rising to £82.50 in February - and £49 - rising to £53.50 in February - to renew a child passport.

How to renew your passport - paper application
If you can't or do not want to apply online, you can get a paper application form by either:
- Going to a Post Office that has a Check and Send service
- Calling the Passport Adviceline
You can pay by either:
- Debit or credit card - fill in the form in the application pack
- Cheque - made payable to ‘HM Passport Office’
In this instance, you will need two new and identical printed photos of yourself whereas online, you only need one.
How to replace your UK passport if it is lost, stolen or damaged - online
You must replace your passport if it has more than reasonable wear and tear because you may not be allowed to travel with it.
To replace it, you need:
- A digital photo
- A credit or debit card
You’ll need to ask someone to confirm your identity online if you’re replacing a lost or stolen passport.
You can replace your passport online via the Gov.uk website.
How to replace your UK passport if it is lost, stolen or damaged - paper application form
Should you wish to apply via a paper application form, you will need to get one by:
- Going to the Post Office
- Calling the Passport Adviceline
You can pay by either:
- Debit or credit card - fill in the form in the application pack
- Cheque - made payable to ‘HM Passport Office’
