The question of how much I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! stars earn might have been blown wide open, with the news that Amir Khan was paid $1 million (£700,000).
“That was a lot of money,” he said. “It was an amazing experience and one of the best I ever had.”
The former professional boxer, 37, who starred on series 17 of the hit ITV show, was perhaps best known for the moment when he and TV personality Iain Lee ate all the strawberries after winning the Dingo Dollar Challenge.
This revelation about Khan’s fee comes amid news that Coleen Rooney will reportedly be paid a record fee for being on I’m a Celebrity this year.
Eight million people tuned into ITV on Sunday for the launch episode in which hosts Ant and Dec made light of the legal proceedings between Rooney and Rebekah Vardy.
Here’s a closer look at what those taking part in the show can expect to earn.
How much are I’m a Celebrity 2024 contestants getting paid?
Coleen Rooney is reportedly earning at least £1.5 million, with potential add-ons, for her appearance on I’m a Celebrity, the highest of any celebrity taking part in 2024.
The figure could be even larger, reported the Independent, meaning she will probably take home more than the £1.5 million earned by previous record holder Nigel Farage in 2023.
Wayne Rooney, by contrast, signed his largest-ever deal with Manchester United in 2013, earning him £15 million a year for six years. However, his wife will earn her figure for just three weeks’ work, giving her the larger pound per hour figure.
Salaries for other 2024 contestants, including Danny Jones, Jane Moore, Tulisa and rumoured late addition Maura Higgins have not been revealed.
The Independent has speculated they could be in the £50,000 to £200,000 range.
If the £1.5 million figure is correct, then it is a sign of the inflation of appearance fees offered on the show as Noel Edmonds was once the highest earner with £600,000. The presenter took the fee in 2019, despite lasting only one week in the jungle.
That same year, Caitlyn Jenner took £500,000 – the same fee that Harry Redknapp commanded in 2018. However, the former football manager proved good value for money as he went all the way to win the competition.
These are all in line with the reported figure for Khan, putting the average in the hundreds of thousands.
