How much does Glastonbury Festival cost? From ticket prices to beer and glamping

Hundreds of thousands of music lovers have descended on Somerset's Worthy Farm this year as Glastonbury Festival returns for its 51st year.

The likes of Elton John, Arctic Monkeys, Guns N Roses, Lana Del Rey, Lizzo and Blondie are among the acts taking to the festival's famous stages over the weekend with thousands of artists joining them on the bill.

Glastonbury is the UK's largest music festival and sees more than 200,000 people attend each year. Despite its size, tickets are notoriously hard to get hold of and sell out in mere minutes each year, with hopeful attendees having to pre-register before purchasing their tickets in a bid to crack down on touts.

Back in 1979, in the very early years of the festival, tickets cost a fiver - and the headliners included Peter Gabriel and Tim Blake. But the price of Glastonbury tickets has been rising over the years and it now stands at nearly £350 for the whole weekend.

In 2022, when the festival was held back for two years due to the pandemic, Glastonbury-goers paid £285 in total - which was £15 more than the original 2020 date was due to cost.

Tickets this year set festival-goers back a total of £340 - that's £55 more than the year before.

Addressing the steep rise in ticket prices back in October last year, festival organiser Emily Eavis said: “We have tried very hard to minimise the increase in price on the ticket but we’re facing enormous rises in the costs of running this vast show, whilst still recovering from the huge financial impact of two years without a festival because of Covid."

How much are tickets for Glastonbury 2023?

Your Glastonbury ticket gets you access to the site, including the numerous camping spots, for the whole weekend from Wednesday to Monday - but coach travel, car parking, pre-erected tents and other optional extras will set you back extra.

People who managed to get their hands on 2023 tickets in the main sale last autumn were required to pay a £50 deposit to secure their ticket, followed by a balance of £285 and a £5 booking fee in April - totalling £340 in total.

A number of tickets also go on sale as coach packages. If you get your hands on these tickets you have to spend £340 on your ticket as well as the price of your coach fare - which ranges from £41 to £140 depending on where in the country you're travelling from.

What about the extras?

If you want to drive to the site and park your car there, a car park pass for 2023 costs £55. If you want to take a campervan or caravan that's an additional cost of £150 for a standard pitch or £250 for a large one.

Glastonbury also has pre-erected tipis that sleep up to six adults and they cost £1,500 to hire for the weekend.

And once you're there you'll likely want the odd beer and a good hearty meal. There are a number of bars as well as hundreds of food vendors to choose from.

This year, the price of a pint starts at £6 in most bars. Burgers and fries have been spotted for £15 while £15 seems to be the going rate for a pizza too. Vodka singles have been spotted for £5 and you can purchase prosecco for £10 a glass.
