Seamus Power is gunning for the biggest win of his career and a mammoth payday at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am this weekend.
The Waterford man is five shots clear heading into the weekend after two successive rounds of 64 saw him break the 36-hole tournament scoring record.
Power is at sixteen-under-par and five clear of Americans Andrew Putnam, Tom Hoge and Canadian Adam Svensson.
It is a performance that has been coming for the 34-year-old, with Power seemingly growing in confidence every week on the PGA Tour.
Power claimed his breakthrough victory at the Barbasol Championship last July and has had top-15 finishes in six of his past seven starts to break into the world's top 50.
But a win at one of the most famous courses in the world would be the highlight of his career and see him pocket a huge €1,371,000 first prize.
He said of his new-found confidence: “It’s night and day. It’s one of those things – you want to play with confidence but how do you get confidence without playing well?
“Its one of those things I’ve been able to work on… and it’s led to some improvements. I just feel much more confident in these positions.”
“My wedge play was great,” Power said.
“I mean I hit three or four shots very, very close and the way I’ve been putting, they were not gimme birdies, but certainly ones you would expect to make — it just changes your whole complex of your round, of your score.”
