Chelsea sale: How much club is really worth as Roman Abramovich looks to find new buyer

Roman Abramovich confirmed last week that he is looking to sell Chelsea Football Club after 19 years of being the owner.

There are several interested parties when it comes to purchasing the Blues, with Todd Boehly and Hansjorg Wyss reportedly submitting an offer for the club on Tuesday.

It is not yet clear how much the aforementioned bid was worth, but Abramovich is demanding £3billion as he looks to cut ties with Chelsea.

Abramovich has invested more than £1.5billion in the club since he took the reins in 2003 and would be looking to recoup that money as part of a sale.

But how much is the club really worth to potential buyers?

According to Forbes the team's value on April 2021 was $3.2billion (£2.4billion), before the club went on to win a second Champions League title and, less than three weeks ago, the Club World Cup.

The club's latest financial results said that the first-team playing squad is worth close to £1billion and that it is "reliant on its ultimate parent undertaking [Abramovich's Fordstam company] for its continued support".

KPMG, meanwhile, said in their most recent Football Benchmark report that the club has an enterprise value of about £1.56billion, the seventh highest in world football.

Interested parties

There have been a host of interested parties named since Abramovich confirmed his intentions last week.

As mentioned above, Wyss and Boehly have teamed up in an attempt to buy Chelsea, but they are not alone in their interest.

Private consortium Saudi Media have expressed their keen interest in the Blues, with group chairman Mohamed Al-Khereiji already visiting Stamford Bridge earlier in the season.

Meanwhile, other reported interested parties Vivek Ranadive, Mushin Bayrak, Robert 'Woody' Johnson, Nick Candy, Thomas Ricketts and Conor McGregor have also been linked.
