Remember the good old days? The year was 2001, it was a chilly October afternoon and you were on your way to the cinema to watch this new film called Harry Potter And The Philosopher Stone.
That is when Steve Jobs announced the iPod to the world and kickstarted an MP3 revolution that reverberated around the world.
That era is just a memory though, as this week Apple confirmed it is discontinuing the iPod.
Ultimately, the invention of the smartphone replaced the iPod, but hundreds of thousands of the music players are still being used today.
As Apple stops the manufacture of these musical devices, many are wondering what to do with their old iPods.
Thankfully, since the confirmation, the resale price of the devices have skyrocketed, so yours could be worth a small fortune...
How much is your iPod worth now?
There are five main iPod brands: the Classic, Mini, Shuffle, Nano and Touch.
iPod Classic was launched in October 2001 for $399, but their rarity today has made them much more valuable.
According to the Daily Mail, earlier this week one sold on eBay for $1,599 with $144.60 shipping on top.
News versions of the classic are also selling well, with one going for $1,388 in April.
Don’t expect to get as much for the Mini though, as the price hasn’t increased too much since its original cost of $249.
One recently sold on eBay for $324.99, however.
The Shuffle was the screen-less version of the device and was very popular with people going to the gym, running and cycling.
At $99 originally, it was by far the most cost-effective version.
On May 3, a second generation sold for $199.99, a major increase from the original price.
At $145, 2005's Nano was another well-priced iPod that was a major improvement over its predecessors.
In March, one sold on eBay for $399.99.
Finally, the Touch was originally listed for $299 when it launched in 2007.
However, people are selling them for a staggering increase, with a fourth-generation version going for $6,524.07 in March on eBay.
A sixth-generation one sold for $3,470 in April.
What to do if you still have an iPod
Apple is not closing down the Apple Music store, so as long as your device still works, there is no need to worry about getting rid of them.
However, with the prices currently so high online, now could be the perfect time to sell for a major upgrade.
This is especially true if you have an old one knocking around in a drawer somewhere.
However, the ones that sold for so high were in new or near-pristine condition, so don’t expect as much if yours has been around the block.
Why is Apple discontinuing iPods?
After 21 years, Apple will no longer manufacture iPods.
The first iPod had the capacity to store 1,000 songs but today Apple’s streaming service has over 90 million tracks.
The company has not given a reason for ending production, but after over 20 years it seems as though iPod’s lifespan has just naturally come to an end.
However, Apple has said it will continue to sell the Touch, the last generation still on sale, “while supplies last”.
“Music has always been part of our core at Apple," said Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing.
“Bringing it to hundreds of millions of users in the way iPod did impacted more than just the music industry – it also redefined how music is discovered, listened to and shared.
