Amy and Tammy Slaton are the stars of hit series 1000-lb Sisters - but that doesn't mean they lead lives of luxury.
Since January 2020, viewers have watched their weight loss journey, emotional struggles and dramatic rows.
Now into a fourth season, which airs tonight on TLC in the US, the siblings have become famous around the world.
However, Tammy has hit out at people who claim they are rich, while Amy has explained working on the show is their main job and spoken about the family's financial woes.
The sister do have other sources of income, having first found fame on YouTube, as well as getting financial assistance from other places.
How much paid per episode
No one knows exactly how much the 1000-lb sisters make on their show - and they have understandingly remained tight-lipped on their earnings.
Tammy actually hit back at a fan on social media who called her rich, stating that she's broke and it's actually TLC with all the money.
Neither of the sisters have disclosed how much money they get per episode, but people have tried to work out the figure based on other similarly-sized reality TV shows.
"For those docu-ensembles, especially if they're nobodies, per episode it ranges from low-end, like $1,500 an episode, to $3,000 at the high end," Business Insider reported.
"And then after three years of success, it can go up to $7,000 to $10,000 an episode. After that, you start moving into the Kardashian level."
But they do have others sources of income, as Amy has 520,000 subscribers on YouTube and also charges fans $20 for a personalised message on Cameo.
Last year, Amy told The Sun: "I can't discuss how much I get paid, but that's my main job and posting videos on YouTube."
According to Amy, TLC have also paid for Tammy to go into rehab in the past, but not for her most recent stay.
Tammy was put on was put on a ventilator and placed in a medically induced coma last year, with her loved ones told to prepare for the worst.
Despite her body "shutting down", she survived and was even well enough to return to the food rehab centre she had been staying in.
Tammy has since undergone therapy to try and help with her struggles and get approved for surgery.
It has also been reported that Tammy is looking to make money by getting her own book deal.
According to a pal, she has been looking to the future and wants to tell-all about her side of the journey and raise awareness of body positivity.
And apparently Tammy isn't too concerned if Amy walks away from the show, as she believes she can carry on solo with a wide variety of money-making projects.
Jobs before finding fame
As viewers of the show know, the sisters had a tough childhood and experienced a lot of hardship growing up.
The Slaton family had a lot of financial insecurity and struggled to stay afloat.
They were practically raised by their grandmother because their mum, Darlene, was out of the house working several part time jobs.
When their grandma died, the sisters had to feed themselves as their mother was still working tirelessly to provide for them.
This contributed to Amy and Tammy's weight gain, as they developed unhealthy eating habits from chowing down on cheap meals such as takeaway and frozen food.
It's not completely clear how the sisters made money before the show, but Amy is legally blind due to an eye condition she was born with and has received disability benefits.
Tammy's weight has made it difficult or her to do many simple tasks on her own, such as making food or even walking, so it would be incredibly hard for her to do most jobs.
Before they found international fame on 1000-lb sisters, the girls started growing a fanbase on YouTube, which they used as a stream of income.
Financial woes
Tammy has struggled with her finances - and had to plough a lot of money into saving her own life.
In February last year, Amy revealed that Tammy lost her home because she just couldn't afford rent.
They had been living together in a $239K Kentucky duplex, but Amy moved out to buy a new home with her husband, Michael Walterman, and their two young kids.
Tammy had been staying in a rehab center in Ohio for food addiction, which she paid for out of her own pocket.
This meant Tammy had the double whammy of having to pay for rehab and an even bigger bill for her own place.
In February last year, Amy told The Sun: "Tammy's social security pays it, it takes her whole social security check, the show isn't paying.
"That's why I hear she doesn't have a place to live because she can't afford the rent.
"When she comes out she'll stay with me for a little bit, soon as we find a place she'll go there."
What is their net worth?
Stars Offline estimates that Amy Slaton has a net worth amounting to roughly $250,000.
While they believe that Tammy has a lower net worth of around $100,000.
This is believed to be due to Tammy having a smaller YouTube follower than her sister.
But their net worth is likely to have increased drastically due to the early success of the fourth season of their show.
They have already begun filming for a fifth season, which will completely focus on Tammy's recovery from weight loss surgery as sister Amy is stepping out of the spotlight.
